Established in Clink Street in 2014, Clink Street Ceramics is a small pottery studio in Central London. With craft progressively pushed away from the city centre, we aim to reconnect society’s cult of making with our urban environment. Each pot is made by hand by studio potter James Sims on a traditional potters wheel, and fired in small batches in our 100 litre kiln. Our work embraces a range of functional and decorative ware that is playful and attempts to bring an emotional dimension to pottery.

We play with the differing characteristics of various clays, across porcelain, stoneware, and earthenware bodies. Our work tries to retain an element of the plasticity of clay, while exploring bold forms and colours.

Artist Statement

Studio Potter James Sims started Clink Street Ceramics in 2014. He graduated from Central St. Martins in 2006 where he studied Furniture and Product Design under Professor Ralph Ball. He also holds degrees in Urban Planning from LSBU, and Architectural History from The Bartlett School of Architecture UCL, where he studied under Professor Murray Fraser. His ceramic practice draws inspiration from his architectural and product design background, in particular his love of Post-Modernism and British subcultures from the 1980s and 90s. He works mostly with stoneware clays and enjoys experimenting with glaze recipes and in-glaze transfers. He works on his own from a small studio in Central London and his work has been exhibited in a number of locations.
